# getExceedances

> Compares a sample's usable results with a limit set (or a list of limits).

> **getExceedances**(`sample`, `limits`): [`Exceedance`](/utils/api/type-aliases/Exceedance)[]

Compares a sample's usable results with a limit set (or a list of limits).

- Results resolve through `parameterKey`, so a CAS-coded result matches the
  limit of its `welldot` equivalent.
- Turbidity: `turbidity`, `turbidity_ntu` and `turbidity_fnu` match a limit
on any of those codes; `turbidity_fau` is never compared.
- A limit with `fraction` applies only to results of that fraction (a
result without `fraction` counts as `total`).
- `presence_allowed: false` is exceeded by `presence: true` (`presence`).
- `<` and `not_detected` never exceed a maximum (`<` is below a minimum when
its value is ≤ `min`); `>` exceeds a maximum when its value is ≥ `max`.
Other numeric values are compared directly (bounds inclusive).
- Rejected results and text results are skipped.
